Rowes Wharf is a large, mixed-use, real estate development located in Boston, Massachusetts consisting of the Boston Harbor Hotel, 2 mid-rise office buildings, 2 low-rise residential wharf buildings, a marina, a retail arcade, and a ferry terminal.

A comprehensive environmental graphics and wayfinding sign program was designed for all program elements. The integration of all graphic requirements with the existing architectural vocabulary was essential, as was the selection of typography, materials, profiles, and colors. Since the major architectural elements designated to hold the various building identifications had been designed and built by the beginning of this phase of work, the designers took on the responsibility of redesigning the inset panels and patterning on these canopy fascia to achieve more reasonably sized and legible information.

Patterns present in the steel railings which surround the site are introduced as base metalwork for the bronze relief orientation/directional kiosks. The predominant color used for the exterior sign program is a dark forest green, used exclusively for all garage signs and chosen to match major architectural elements of the same color.
