Since 1953, Smeal College of Business at Penn State University has consistently ranked as one of the leading business schools in the world for both undergraduate and graduate programs. The College’s 4-story, 210,000-square-foot building is the largest academic facility located on the University campus in State College, Pennsylvania. This state-of-the-art facility houses classrooms, lecture halls, research and teaching laboratories, conference and meeting rooms, faculty and administrative offices, as well as a 4-story atrium, a 400-seat auditorium, and the “Blue Chip” cafe.

Poulin + Morris designed a comprehensive environmental graphics and wayfinding sign program for the College. One unique component of this project is an extensive donor recognition program comprised of a series of textural line patterns found in stock certificates, bonds, and international currency that were used as iconographic backdrops throughout the program. These distinctive backgrounds are layered behind donor names and sandblasted on individual glass panels. The textural patterns, as well as their historical origins from the financial world, celebrate individual donor support of the institution and the unique business curriculums offered at
the College.
