Originally designed by Emery Roth & Sons in 1961, 280 Park Avenue is one of midtown Manhattan’s premier corporate addresses. The 43-story, 1.3 million-square-foot, mid-century modernist office building is owned and managed by Vornado Realty Trust and has recently undergone an extensive renovation designed by Kohn Pedersen Fox Associates. The modernization of the building includes a new lobby with 25-foot-high ceilings extending the full block-front of Park Avenue, fully redeveloped entrances and plaza areas with abundant green space, an interior atrium with a museum-quality reflecting pool, and a new double height retail presence on both 48th and 49th Streets.
A comprehensive environmental graphics and wayfinding sign program was designed for all public
areas of the renovated office building. The scope of the program includes main building identification, elevator lobby and bank identification, tenant directories, multi-tenant suite identification, and code-related signs. In keeping with the modernist aesthetic of the building, a modern sans serif typeface was used and fabricated out of tubular stainless steel bar stock providing a unique and dynamic identity for the building, as well as throughout its public spaces.
Poulin + Morris also developed retail tenant sign standards for the building’s exterior retail storefronts.
