The Redwood Library and Athenaeum is the oldest lending library in America, and the oldest library building in continuous use in the country. Founded in 1747 upon the principle of “having nothing in view but the good of mankind,” its mission continues over 250 years later.
With its finely balanced lines, classical pediment, and columned grand façade, the Redwood was the first public Palladian building constructed in the American colonies; a predecessor of the formal buildings that would grace America’s capital city. Today, the Redwood is an independent subscription library supported by membership fees, endowments, and gifts, and cares for more than 160,000 volumes, archives, manuscripts, and important collections of seventeenth to eighteenth century portraiture, sculpture, furniture, and decorative arts.
The Redwood Library and Athenaeum commissioned Poulin + Morris to design a new branding and graphic identity program to commemorate the completion of their recent renovation.
